Entrepreneurial Ideas Come To Life At Hult Hult Blog
Written by Maria Victoria Suncar, final year Bachelor of Business Administrationà at Hult International Business School and Brand and Marketing intern at Hult London.à Global Entrepreneurial Environment One of the main differentiators of Hult International Business School is the entrepreneurial environment present at every campus. The support of the faculty and community can be seen through events and ideas like the Hult Prize. Ideas come and go, but the spirit and persistence are consistent. There are many industries and markets that are waiting to be explored, and with the diverse background in the student body and knowledge, success is right around the corner. Recently two ventures initiated at Hult, have proven to defy the odds. From a science to finance, both have succeeded. At Hult we understand that the best way to learn is through practice, and being hands on. Clustermarket- Founded in 2015 Clustermarket Co-Founders: Niklas Friedberg, Tobias Wingbermuehle Jonannes Solzbach Clustermarket is an online sharing platform for scientists to list, discover, and book lab space, equipment, and expertise within their cluster or institution. The idea behind it is to make research and development in the life sciences industry more affordable and less time consuming, thereby every idea has the chance to become a breakthrough innovation. How does this work? Clustermarket makes this possible by renting out available resources to external parties. These resources can also be shared internally, allowing a simple integration in the lab managers daily tasks. Call it the Airbnb of life sciences. Clustermarket is a winner of the MassChallenge UK and recently received funding by a big pharmaceutical, Merck Group. Clustermarket is currently raising further capital to launch and expand their venture in the UK and Germany. ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢re really excited about our official launch, leading institutions have already signed up,â⬠said Johannes Solzbach, Co-Founder of Clustermarket andà a Hult almunus. One of the main reasons why research takes long or is delayed is because of the lack of access to resources as well as pricing. The timeframe to develop new drugs or discover new things could be considerably shortened with Clustermarket. The waiting for equipment or expertise would no longer be an issue, and for the owners, the maintenance costs would be covered. It is a win-win situation. How was Clustermarket founded? The idea was born while one of the founders attended a speaker event at Hult. Soon after the idea developed into a proper concept, and after seeking help at Hult, they had an investor lined up. I was not born as an entrepreneur to be honest. I just started this at Hult. I wanted to go to a bank to do corporate finance, but then all these people were interested [on the idea], it just wasnt an idea anymore. Thats when I was hooked, Johannes said. Someone once told me the best entrepreneurs are those that never give up, but also give up in the right moment. The thing is that you never know when the right moment is! Start-ups that engage in the sharing economy mind-set have been very popular in so many different industries. And they have proven to succeed precisely because it makes things move faster, thus increasing efficiency. Clustermarket focuses on providing this service in the life sciences area, which means drug development, biotechnology, and research, all of it fast paced. In terms of the experience, Johannesà said that from his perspective one should definitely go the start-up route. He said that much more is learned as one can see how everything connects and that even if it fails the experience is great and employers value it. The entrepreneurial spirit underpins the Hult DNA. It sparks students to create business ideas and be very hands on. There is an intrinsic value to this, as Johannesà explains, Nowadays big corporates in Germany often ask what the candidateââ¬â¢s entrepreneurial spirit is. They want people to think differently and work independently. MBJ LONDON Founded in 2013 MBJ staff celebrating the opening of their Berlin office in September, 2016 Start-ups are everywhere, and they need as much support as any other established business. There is no such thing as a second first impression, and for businesses today most first impressions occur online. Start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) find it more and more difficult to find affordable and efficient ways of creating the perfect online presence to suit their needs. Building and managing effective websites, that are both appealing and useful to the user, but also for the business requires expertise across a range of key skill sets. Cutting through the noise and finding their niche within the SME domain is whatà MBJà does best. MBJ LONDON is a digital start-up founded by two Hult Alumni, Julian Baladurage and Toni Horn, in 2013. Since starting the business in their living room, which they shared during their studies at Hult, the pair have gone on to build an international operation with over 40 employees, in 5 countries across 3 continents. Director of Partnerships, Chris Nobbs (Hult Alum 2014), said they were thrilled with the support they have received and will now be able to effectively scale and expand their business. Our research indicated that a lot of smaller businesses and SMEs were way behind the digital curve, didnââ¬â¢t know what to do in the digital space and couldnââ¬â¢t afford the several thousand pound quotes they were receiving to establish a digital online presence.â⬠Evolving and adapting Originally MBJ focused on App development, complex web builds, and software. Today, they offerà WaaSà (Website as a Service) and have offices in London, as well as more recently in Chicago, Boston, Los Angles, Ahmedabad and Berlin. MBJ specialises in full end-to-end development, design, and marketing of websites, and other integrated technologies. ââ¬Å"We decided to pivot our business model and focus on delivering Website as a Service (WaaS) to Small and Medium size companies,à Chrisà continued. What is Waas? WaaS by MBJ is a subscription based service that allows start-ups and SMEs to focus on doing business while their websites and digital marketing are fully taken care of. WaaS encompasses multiple packages to suit an extremely wide variety of clients from virtually any industry or sector. Due to the need for positive, long-term relationships with clients in subscription-based business models, MBJ places a huge emphasis on product quality, delivery of service, and on-going customer relations. Every client works with a project manager to guide them through the development phase, and is then assigned a personal account manager who takes care of their on-going needs. Diversifying the business In addition to these services, MBJ has a small investment fund,à HGV,à that works with a small group of angel investors. The purpose of HGV is to focus on financing and investing in early stage tech start-ups. MBJ held their own start-up event, MBJ LaunchPad, in partnership with IBM, Virgin Start-up, KPMG, and Hult International Business School. A total of à 200 applications from around the world were received. We invited the five final teams to London to pitch their idea at Google Campus and gave away à £100 000 in non-equity investment. This was all an incredible experience and taught us a lot, but when you are working on large scale projects it becomes difficult to budget and scale the rest of business,à Chrisà shared. Raising Capital MBJ launched a crowdfunding campaign in July 2016. The doubling of their initial target was a surprise, they expressed how pivotal their network was to achieve their goal.à Chrisà explained that they were very confident they would reach à £150,000, but to see it increase so much more from there was amazing. They set out to raise à £350,000 but reached à £715,000 from over 300 investors. Chrisà also shared that they were strategic about it as they had their lists and networks. As Hult alumni, you have that connection, understanding, and an element of trust. We come from very international backgrounds and have lived around the world. In start-ups, the mindset is key; when on-boarding new employees we use the expression mindset over skillset. MBJ has exciting plans for the future, which includes attracting 400 clients by the end of 2017. MBJ has clearly identified a gap in the market. And what makes them unique is they know what being start-up is like, allowing them to understand their clients better than anyone else out there. Hult opens doors for those willing to make a change, it gives opportunities and recognises talent in everyone. Clustermarket and MBJ are proof that with the right support and mindset, ideas can come to life. The Rights And Civil Liberties - 1558 Words
As American citizens, we are given essential rights and civil liberties that places limits on government power. These rights are known as the Bill of Rights; the first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution. One right in particular I want to discuss is the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment is known as the right against ââ¬Å"unreasonable search and seizures.â⬠It is the basis of the law with regards to stop-and-frisk, search warrants, wiretaps, and other forms of surveillance. This Amendment states that ââ¬Å"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.â⬠The Supreme Court decided that without a warrant, searches are presumed unreasonable, and any evidence seized will not be admissible in court unless an exception to the warrant requirement is proven, such as the ââ¬Å"good faithâ⬠exception. Even though the Fourth Amendment made an attempt to ensure the privacy of citizens, technological advances have made that challenging. The use of technology by law enforcement has been around for centuries and has expanded extensively over the past two decades. Telephone tapping, CCTV, GPS tracking, ââ¬Å"buggingâ⬠, eavesdropping, night vision, and computer surveillance are many forms of a type of search andShow MoreRelatedCivil Liberties And Civil Rights1149 Words à |à 5 PagesWhat Role Does Our Civil Liberty and Rights Play In Our Government System? Sightseeing Trip Washington, D.c - 1248 Words
A sightseeing vacation in Washington, D.C. wouldn t be complete without taking a bus tour of the historic sights. One of the top tour companies in Washington, D.C. is Old Town Trolley Tours. I recently took one of their tours while on vacation. Old Town Trolley Tours has three trolley routes (or loops). The orange loop passes by the National Mall and Downtown. The green loop shows the National Cathedral, Uptown and Georgetown. The red loop travels to Arlington National Cemetery. My family took the orange loop, since it was my kids first time in the nation s capital and we wanted to see the monuments. All three loops have a total of 19 combined stops. One trolley fare entitles the rider to board and disembark at any stop. Due to the unseasonably warm weather and tired children in tow, we decided to stay on for the entire loop. All tours start at the Old Town Trolley welcome center at 11th and E Streets. The orange loop should last 90 minutes. However, we were there during the Cher ry Blossom weekend and gridlock was prevalent all over the district. Our ride lasted almost two hours. Because of the traffic, the driver had to forgo stopping at the Jefferson Memorial. The cherry blossoms are located in the Tidal Basin, which is also the site of the Jefferson Memorial. A highlight of our tour was catching an unobstructed view of the White House. At each monument or sight, the trolley comes to a full stop and passengers are allowed to get on or off. In this essay, the action of the drug, which is designed to stop the action of the neurotransmitter release in the pre-synaptic cleft is discussed, which helps in the prevention of disorder due to the continuous nerve movement. The mechanism of endocytosis is used as to design the drug. The endocytosis is a process of active transport, where cell engulfs particles from the extracellular fluid. As it is an active form of transport, energy is required in this form of transport, and it helps in the transportation of the major polar molecules, which are not possible to pass through the hydrophobic layer of the cell membrane (Sigismund et al. 2012). On the other hand, exocytosis is another form of active transport, in which molecules are transported out of the cell to the extracellular fluid (Refer to Appendix). Both endocytosis and exocytosis form the vesicle pathway for the cell. The neurotransmitters are the chemical messengers that help in the process neurotransmission. The chemical messages are passed from one cell to another through the synaptic cleft. These neurotransmitters are small or large-sized proteins that are passed through the endoplasmic reticulum. If the KEDL sequence of peptide is present within the ER, it prevents the protein from leaving the ER. Neve rtheless, if the concentration of the soluble protein within the ER is high, the process of vesicle pathway is carried out and the proteins are transported to the Golgi complex. The soluble proteins are bounded to the KEDL receptor and are transported to Golgi body. From the Golgi body, the protein enters the lysosome and thereby reaching the stage of late endosomes. From lysosome, the particles are sent to the extracellular fluid, with the help of hydrolytic enzyme (Giannotta et al. 2012). Many drugs have the capability to inhibit the action of the neurotransmitter. These drugs are able to inhibit the function of neurotransmitter by binding on the particular target site of the, where the neurotransmitter is supposed to bind. The drug can attach directly to the binding site of the neurotransmitter, which is called the competitive binding. It can also attach to the alternative site, and it is called non-competitive binding (Silverman and Holladay 2014). The precursor enzymes of the neurotransmitter can be inhibited, when the drug binds to the active site of the enzymes. Vesicles are the medium through which, the neurotransmitter are transported. Drugs like dopamine and serotonin are the able to fill the vesicles and thereby preventing the protein from being transported using the mechanism of endocytosis. The calcium ions, which are responsible for the release of neurotransmitter, can be blocked by the release of the docked vesicules. Botulinum is the drug that is responsible for the inhibiting the action of the calcium ion by binding with the proteins present in the neuron membrane (Changingminds.org, 2016). The action of the neurotransmitter can be prevented with the help of the drugs that have the ability to prevent the process of endocytosis. The drug that is designed to prevent the continuous nerve disorder needs to have the characteristics to replicate the property of the neurotransmitter protein. Reference Changingminds.org. (2016). The Tragedy Of Hamlet Essays (947 words) - Shakespearean Tragedies
The Tragedy of Hamlet Arguably, the best piece of writing ever done by William Shakespeare, Hamlet is the classic example of a tragedy. In all tragedies the hero suffers, and usually dies at the end. Othello stabs himself, Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, Brutis falls on his sword, and like them Hamlet dies by getting cut with a poison tipped sword. But that is not all tht is need to consider a play a tragedy, and sometimes a hero doesn't even need to die. Not every play in which a hero dies is considered a tragedy. There are more elements needed to label a play one. Probably the most important element is an amount of free will. In every tragedy, the characters must display some. If every action is controlled by a hero's destiny, then the hero's death can't be avoided, and in a tragedy the sad part is tht it could. Hamlet's death could have been avoided many times. Hamlet had many opportunities to kill Claudius, but didn't take advantage of them. He also had the option of making his claim public, but instead he chose not too. A tragic hero doesn't need to be good. For example, MacBeth was evil, yet he was a tragic hero, because he had free will. He also had only one flaw, and that was pride. He had many good traits such as bravery, but his one bad trait made him evil. Also a tragic hero doesn't' have to die. While in all Shakespearean tragedies, the hero dies, in others he may live but suffer oral Destruction In Oedipus Rex, the proud yet morally blind king plucks his eyes out, and has to spend his remaining days as a wandering, sightless beggar, guided at every painful step by his daughter, Antigone. A misconception about tragedies is that nothing good comes out of them, but it is actually the opposite. In Romeo and Juliet, although both die, they end the feud between the Capulets and the Montegues. Also, Romeo and Juliet can be together in heaven. In Hamlet, although Hamlet dies, it is almost the best. How could he have any pleasure during the rest of his life, with his parents and Ophelia dead. Also, although Hamlet dies, he is able to kill Claudius and get rid of the evil ruling of the throne. Every tragic play must have a tragic hero. The tragic hero must possess many good traits, as well as one flaw, which eventually leads to his downfall. A tragic hero must be brave and noble. In Othello, Othello had one fatal flaw, he was too great. Othello was too brave, too noble, and especially too proud to allow himself to be led back to Venice in chains. A tragic hero must not back down from his position. He also had to have free will, in order to stand up for what he believes in. Finally, the audience must have some sympathy for the tragic hero. In Macbeth, although MacBeth commits many murders, one almost feels sorry for him and his fate. Hamlet is the perfect example of the tragic hero. Hamlet has all the good traits needed to be a tragic hero. He is brave and daring. One example of this is that when he went to England, he was taking a big risk. If his plan didn't work, he would have been executed. He also is loyal. His loyalty to his father, was the reason he was so angry at Claudius and his mother. Another trait was that he was intelligent. He was able to think up the idea of faking insanity, in order to get more information about Claudius. But Hamlet like all other tragic heros had a flaw. He couldn't get around to doing anything, because he couldn't move on. He was a full grown adult, yet he still attended school in England, because he couldn't move on. Also, it took him a long time to stop grieving about his father, because he didn't want to move past that party of his life. And after he finally did, Hamlet couldn't get around to killing Claudius. He kept pretending he was insane even after he was sure that Clau dius killed his father. The final

Impacts of government actions to the markets1.à New trends on Financial landscape and changes in institutionââ¬â¢s behavior towards riskReferencesRelated Introduction 1.à Government responses and interventions in the financial crisis According to the causes and effects discussed in the above parts, the global financial crisis can be divided into two main phases. The first phase was from August 2007 to August 2008, stemmed from losses in a small segment in the financial system , i.e. the subprime mortgages market. The second phase was in the mid-September 2008, in which the disruption developed far more rigorously. Rapidly, the moderate financial recession had transformed into a significantly disruptive global crisis in a short period of time. In order to stabilize and boost the weaken economy,à policymakers have acted aggressively to deal with the heterogeneous causes of the crisis ( A. Russo, J. Katze, 2010) since its emergence in 2007. Even though there are many opposers to governmentââ¬â¢s reaction (Moore, Baker, Taylor ), it is also approved by a significant number of economists and authorities ( IMF, McCain, Blinder, Zandi ) that the legislative and regulatory response prevented a far worst outcome , t hat is the second Great Depression. From August 2007, central banks began to lower interest rates ( Fed, timelines of policy responses ) to spur economies and make it more profitable for banks to loan. Interest rates then were discounted during diverse stages of the crisis. Following that cutting, incentives were created for US taxpayers, i.e tax rebates. Homeowners also received governmentââ¬â¢s assistance by refinancing their mortgages. Regarding individual institutions, governments did offer them bailouts ( Davidoff, Zaring, 2009). In September and October, 2008, central banks did implement a comprehensive, global action to recapitalize banks. For instance, on 30th September, French government and state-owned banks offered 3 billion euro to Dexia recapitalization; and on 13th October, Germany 70 billion euro recapitalization fund was pledged (the Fed, International timeline). Hence, central banks have imposed a great number of additional policy tools as the need arose. In gene ral, these responses can be divided into three main sets as follows. (1)à Lending to financial institutions During the crisis, the Federal Reserve has applied numerical actions to insure financial institutions have adequate liquidity for short-term credit activities. These actions include issuing new facilities for auctioning credit as well as banks and dealers to borrow at the Federal Reserveââ¬â¢s discount window. For instance, the Fedââ¬â¢s timelines of policy responses to the global financial crisis reports that since August 2007, the difference between federal fund target rates and the discount rates have been reduced from 100 basis points to 25 basis points. Similarly, many related terms were altered for the favor of financial institutions including Term Auction Facility ( TAF, Fedââ¬â¢s timeline, 12/12/2007), in which depository institutions can borrow funds at the rate below discount rates with term up to three months ; Term Securities Lending Facility ( TSLF, Fedââ¬â¢s timeline, 11/3/2008) together with Primary Dealer Credit Facility ( PDCF, Fedââ¬â¢s timeline, 16/3 /2008) . Moreover, as the financial crisis affected severely to the global economy, the need of providing liquidity into other countriesââ¬â¢ economies arose. The Fed had entered into swap agreements with 14 foreign central banks. In this kind of agreement, these international banks are allowed to borrow dollars from the Fed to lend others bank which under their administration. (2) Providing liquidity directly to key credit markets Credit risk is known as one of the significantly contributing factor to the global crisis. On condition that anxiety of asset quality and creditworthy, financial institutions still constrained their loan provision after an abundant liquidity was put into the market. So as to solve and improve these problems, the Fed intervened by providing liquidity directly to demanders in key credit markets. These tools conclude Commercial Paper Funding Facility (CPFF) , which offers the Fed the high quality commercial paper with an expiration period of 90 days ( Carlson, Wakerfiled, 2009). (3) Purchasing long-term securities The last policy toolkit of central bank involved buying long-term securities in private credit markets. In an article by Benanke (2008) , $100 billion in government sponsored enterprise (GSE) debt together with more than $500 billion GSE mortgaged-backed securities were bought by the Federal Reserve. These actions put an effect of reducing the mortgage rate substantially. 2. Impacts of government actions to the markets Other than the fundamental cause, that is leverage, there are plenty of contributing factors led to the worst economic recession since the 1930s. Of which, complicit governments ( central banks, regulators and legislatures) also bear a share of the responsibility( A. Russo, J. Katze, 2010). For instance, in the case ofà Citigroup and AIG, the US policymakers did not alter the existing law so as to bail out rapidly, and also offered the discount window to Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs that allowed them to convert into bank holding companies. However, in an article of Blinder and Zandi ( 2010), it is indicated that the economic recovery has made certain progress. As show below in the figure 5, by September 2010,the Fed and government has brought back the mild stabilization to the financial market. Exhibit 5: Source: Blinder, Alan S. and Zandi, Mark , How the Great Recession Was Brought to an End, July 27, 2010 Although the growth of economic recovery has still been in sluggish pace and uneven, authorities including IMF, former Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Alan Blinder, and current Moodyââ¬â¢s Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi , have concluded that with the absence of the monetary and fiscal measures implemented by the Federal Reserve as well as the Bush and Obama Administrations, it would have been much more worse. As the IMF observed ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ thanks to a powerful and effective policy response, the United State recovery from the Great Recession has become increasingly well established. Since mid-2009, massive macroeconomic stimulus and the turn in the inventory cycle have overcome prevailing balance sheet strains, and- aided by steadily improving financial conditions- autonomous private demand has also started to gain ground.â⬠Likewise, the opinion of Blinder and Zandi is that the ââ¬Å"â⬠¦effects of the governmentââ¬â¢s total policy responseâ⬠¦on real GDP, j obs, and inflation are huge, and probably averted what could have been called Great Depression 2.0.â⬠On the basis of these analysis, Blinder and Zandi ââ¬Å"â⬠¦estimate that, without the governmentââ¬â¢s response, GDP in 2010 would be about 11.5% lower, payroll employment would be less by 81/2 million jobs, and the nation would now be experiencing deflationâ⬠. Albeit the combination efforts taken by government and the Fed have positive effects to some extent to the economic recovery, recent analysis shows that the stimulus attempts are small and insufficient to reduce the unemployment rates and restore market confidence effectively. Hence, even though the housing market has recently attained some good news, there has been a rise in unemployment and ââ¬Å"underemploymentâ⬠rates of 9.6% and 16.7%, respectively ( A. Russo, J. Katze, 2010). Recent economists indicated that, the governmentââ¬â¢s responses to the brutal financial disaster led to dramatic increases in public sector spending. Thus, the 2008 crisis was initially in the private sector has been increasing to sovereign debt. So, new challenges have been contributed to the existing burden of many policymakers. Part E 1.à New trends on Financial landscape and changes in institutionââ¬â¢s behavior towards risk The global financial recession has been triggered by complex causes. One of its fundamental contributing factor, i.e. leverage, initially existed in the private sector. However, recent observers has drawn attention to the fact that the 2008 crisis has potentially probabilities to transform into government sector (Harper, Chritine,2010) , i.e. sovereign debt. In reality, there have been several countries experiencing this trend including Greek, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, etc. It is the view of professors Reinhart and Rogoffà ( A. Russo, J. Katzel, P46, 2010)that the evolution from banking crisis to sovereign debt is inevitable to some extent. The reason is because in order to save a destructive financial system, government must intervene first by supporting vulnerable financial institutions, and following that is (1) enhancing private consumption through tax rebates or reductions in discount rates ;or (2) government stimulus measures. All these policy toolkits can involve considerab le increases in government spending, affecting the asset side of the governmentââ¬â¢s balance sheet. Thus, it leads to the sovereign debt. The main point that triggered the credit crunch in 2008 is the low interest rate and loose supervision. To code with that, IMF has announced the new version of global banking capital requirement for BASEL III which is highly demanded of the capital rate for banks. However, this is not the solution to fix out the problem. Obviously, the problem turns to be lack of supervision of the operational of Hedge Funds, not the banking sector. The flood of newly invented financial derivative forms the killer of this crisis. In order to keep these out of balance sheet, Hedge fund tend to use SIVs as a usual tool. Therefore, a strong demanding regulate should be focused on the Derivatives Market. We might establish a committee to supervise the new investment vehicle published, and call for standard trade contract could be allowance. In the contrast, part of risky private tailored structure product should be abandon. At the same time, we shall contend that the financial reporting standard for the Hedge Funds field should be changed, information they provide must be more transparent. What`s more, the submitting of the credit analysisà of CDOs contrast. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à References 1. Investment Decision Making Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Investment Decision Making - Assignment Example Market risk is considered to be un-diversifiable and therefore investors expect a risk premium to compensate them for taking on such risk. (Bodie et al., 2002; Ross et al., 1999). Unsystematic risk otherwise known as firm specific risk or operating risk is risk that can be diversified away and therefore investors should not be compensated for taking on such risk. (Bodie et al., 2002; Ross et al., 1999). Prior to the Basel II accord, more emphasis was placed on hedging market risk. However, following from the Basel II accord, Operations risk herein referred to as OR began receiving greater attention. (Neu and Khn, 2003). The aim of this study is to analyze the problems and risks foreign companies that want to do business in United Arab Emirates and Venezuela are likely to face. In addition, the risk that the company may face in these countries will also be analyzed with respect to each of the two countries. Risk associated with foreign investment whether direct or indirect are numerous. The paper will begin by presenting an overview of the risk situation of United Arab Emirates in part one, focusing on all the risks faced by foreign companies operating in this area. Part two analyse a similar situation as in part one, but focusing on Venezuela. Part three of the paper contrast the situation based on the information presented in part one and two, while the last section made an informed decision to investors as to which of the two countries to invest upon. 1.1.1 United Arab Emirates Overview United Arab Emirates, UAE is a country in the Middle East bordering the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf, between Oman and Saudi Arabia (IMF Economic Report 2007). Potential market's indicators include United Arab Emirates Population (in millions) 4.5 Import of goods and services (millions $ ) 98.976 GNP (in millions of USD) 103.460 The U.A.E. is considered one of the highest per-capita gross national products in the world (IMF Economic Report 2007). Although still heavily dependent on revenues from oil and gas, the country is relatively well-insulated from periods of low oil prices because of successful moves toward economic diversification, large foreign exchange reserves and overseas investments. 1.1.2 United Arab Emirates Risk Profile This section of the paper looks at the overall risk situation of the UAE area. Attention is paid on key change drivers and risk indicators such as political risk, economic risk, competitive risk, exchange rate fluctuations etc. The section goes ahead and sees if there are some of these risks unique to the area. The Literature surrounding operating risk has centred on its management (e.g., Lewis,
